The Criminal Prosecutor’s Office initiated preliminary proceedings that day to determine the causes of her sudden death.
Gervasi was found dead by officers of the National Police in her apartment located in Miraflores. This happened after she had been reported missing for several days.
“Provincial prosecutor Miluska Romero Pacheco informed that the proceedings to remove the body had already begun. At the scene, personnel from the National Police of Peru’s criminal investigation unit and forensic experts from the Institute of Legal Medicine are present,” reported the Prosecutor’s Office.
According to Foreign Minister Elmer Schialer, Gervasi was on vacation in Peru and was scheduled to return to Geneva, where she worked as an ambassador. Since she did not check in, the foreign ministry contacted the National Police to search for her.
“One of her secretaries called me to inform me that a driver responsible for taking her to the airport had knocked on the door of her apartment and received no answer,” Schialer said, adding that they searched for Gervasi at several clinics in the capital. When they were unsuccessful, they contacted the National Police to initiate the process for a missing person.
“We were promptly assisted by the National Police. They initiated the search protocol, gathering information first before officially declaring her missing. They came to the apartment, collected video records, and indicated that Gervasi entered her residence and never left,” he added.
